What is a drop camp?
It is a very affordable way to experience a true western back-country adventure for the do-it-yourself (DIY) hunter who really just wants to get away from the crowds and be “dropped” into country that has historically been known to produce good representative species of the iconic animals of the west; most often Rocky Mountain Elk and Mule Deer are the sought after species, but we have done bear and wolf drop camps as well.
These drops camps are located several miles back into roadless country in Castle Creek Outfitters’ guiding area. It would be a rare instance indeed to see another hunter during your stay with us. Even as the west is getting more crowded, it seems that there are still some “hidden gems” that are out there where you can escape the crowds and have real back-country experience.
Our drop camps consist of a tent, cots with pads, wood burning stove, cooking and eating utensils, lanterns, propane cook-top; basically, everything you need for “camping” except your personal gear and provisions. You’ll need to bring propane for the cook-top and will want to have a Satellite device for communication.
Our price includes a preset camp, horseback ride and packing in of you and your gear and packing out of you, your gear and any game you harvested during your stay in the back-country. You will be required to get your harvested game back to your camp site.
Our drop camps DO NOT include food, guides, horses left in camp, hunting license and tags, field preparation of game, meat processing, taxidermy fees or shipping. Personal gear weight limit is 50lbs per person. Rifle and food are not included in the weight limit.
